In total, eight persons were discharged from Mulago Hospital and one from Hoima Hospital, including three women and four male, after they twice tested negative COVID-19.

The new figures show that only 35 of Uganda’s 55 confirmed cases are active and will be released in the next few days even more.

A total of 1395 contacts have been listed to date according to the Ministry of Health in the confirmed cases. Of 1.395 contacts, 1.073 have completed the obligatory 14-day period of follow-up.

Other 316 contacts continue to be monitored by the monitoring teams. A total of 936 people were discharged from institutional quarantine and 173 people are still in quarantine.

The Ministry of Health has now launched more tests for COVID -19 truck drivers, mostly those travelling in or out of the country via various boarding points following confirmation from one positive case by the truck driver earlier this week.

Uganda has had a total of 55 cases confirming that no victims have died of the virus and, excluding those recovered from the virus, the number of patients infected has dropped to only 35 as of Thursday, the 17th.

The Ministry of Health reminds everyone who has come from abroad between 7th to 22nd March to isolate him/herself at home or report for check up to avoid the virus from spreading.

The virus found first in Wuhan still lives worldwide. According to Johns Hopkins University, more than 2,1 million people were infected worldwide and at least 145,000 killed.

More than 18,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus have already been reported in the African continent, with several countries imposing more tough measures such as lockdown and curfew to mitigate pandemic spread.

The latest COVID-19 data show that, in Africa, only 2 nations of Africa, including the Comoros and Lesotho are still not recording a case of the virus, according to the John Hopkins University and the Africa Center for COVID-19.

There are 18,441 confirmed Coronavirus cases in Africa as a whole with 966 deaths and 4,344 recoveries out of all 52 infected nations.
