Giorgio Armani, a Milan-based designer fashion house, has announced that it will donate EUR 1.25 million to fight the Coronavirus alias COVID-19.

As the country most hit by the coronavirus in Europe, Italy has now quarantined a staggering 16 million people, with the number of confirmed cases rising to 9,172 as of Sunday, with total deaths reaching 463.

These horrific incidents have resulted in an outburst donation of EUR 1.25 million by renowned designer Giorgio Armani of Italy.

The generous donation aimed at fighting Coronavirus was made by the designer Giorgio Armani to four different hospitals across the nation through his fashion group (three in Milan), as well as to the Civil Protection Agency.

Chief Antonio Pesenti, of the Lombardy Regional Crisis Response Unit, said earlier that the health system in the region was “a step away from collapse” as more and more cases emerge, putting increasing pressure on the infrastructure of the health system.

Italy possesses the most confirmed cases of coronavirus outside Asia. The virus spread across all of the country’s 20 regions. There are more than 10,140 confirmed cases, and on Tuesday the death toll sprang to 630.

Globally, as of March 9, the confirmed cases of coronavirus reached 113,702 and the death toll stood at 4,012.

The majority of confirmed cases and deaths from the virus are in China, where the outbreak was first reported.

Relatedly, several other luxury corporations have made contributions in China and elsewhere to combat the COVID-19 crisis.

In late January, the two French fashion powerhouses, Kering Group and LVMH Moët Hennessy made donations to help combat the coronavirus in China.

The Kering Group, a parent company of labels including Gucci, Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen, and Ulysse Nardin, donated US$ 1.08 million to the Hubei Red Cross Foundation, while LVMH Moët Hennessy, owned by Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Celine, and Christian Dior, pledged more to the Red Cross Foundation in China.

In February, the Chinese Red Cross Foundation was given CNY 1 million by the Italian luxury group Versace and CNY2 million was pledged by the US cosmetics firm Estée Lauder.

The outbreak affected luxury mode brands, as about one-third of the luxury purchases are made by Chinese consumers.

Since then, luxury companies have shut down their stores, cancelled fashion shows, and reduced their annual profit forecasts.

Giorgio Armani, a privately held company with $2.4 billion in sales recorded last year, revealed last week that its long-awaited cruise show 2021 which was scheduled for 19 and 20 April in Dubai would be postponed until November.
