This is the tweet, to begin with
On Saturday night, Kanye West took a new level on Twitter and announced his intention to run for president.
He wrote:

“We must now realize the promise of the United States by trusting God, uniting our vision and building our future. I am running for the Presidency of the United States of America! #2020VISION”
That tweet immediately led to memes, support and condemnation.
The reality star and Kanye’s wife, Kim Kardashian West, quickly retweeted the announcement with an American flag for the title.
Technology mogul Elon Musk retweeted Kanye’s announcement, “You have my full support!” Just a few days ago, the two posted a picture that read, “When you go to your boy’s house, you’re both wearing orange.” Inappropriate Twitter feeds and inflammatory political commentary are a trademark for both West and Musk.
But not everyone is so supportive. Many detonated Kanye for contradicting such an important election. Ahmed Baba, writer and founder of Rantt Media, tweeted:

“Kanye West and Elon Musk view the most consequential election of our life as a mockery – and as a result, their money will save them. We are sick of being trolled by oversized egos.
Go in a meaningful way to help us defeat Trump or sit quietly. “
Advertising stunt or political manoeuvre?
The timing, words and context of this announcement have raised more than a few eyebrows.

West recently released a new single, “Wash Us In Blood.” He also teased a new album, God’s country, a week before his presidential tweet. Just weeks before, a new clothing partnership with West and Gap was announced. Overall, the timing of this announcement represents a publicity stunt.
The West’s past involvement with politics raises some questions. President Trump and Kanye West have been friends for some time. West has worn Make America Great Again hat on several occasions, especially during Trump’s visit to the Oval Office in 2018.
He has yet to comment on whether he supports the president or plans to launch an opposition campaign.
Democrats, meanwhile, are concerned that West candidacy may exclude young and black voters from speculative candidate Joe Biden. On the other hand, Kanye West is a fiscal conservative, which means he can attract a small number of Republican voters, such as some black voters who backed Trump in 2016.
Is he too late?
At the moment, it is still unclear whether Kanye West wants to run in this cycle. Although he previously discussed running for the White House in 2024, his use of the hashtag #2020Vision suggests that he may contest in an election that is only four months away.
Either way, Kanye has not yet taken the steps necessary to technically qualify for the ballot.
Kanye West presidential nomination announcement for 2020 came too late in the game. He has already missed some key deadlines, and now it is too late to file as an independent candidate in the following 6 states:
- Indiana, June 30 registration deadline.
- Maine, June 1 registration deadline.
- New Mexico, June 25 registration deadline.
- New York, May 26 registration deadline.
- North Carolina, March 3 registration deadline.
- Texas, May 11 registration deadline.
But he can still apply to appear on the ballot in most states. Still, seven states have a July registration deadline. If he is serious about this decision, he must take swift action, including signing thousands of petitions in every state.
Also, Kanye West has not yet registered with the Federal Electoral Commission, but there is no deadline for that requirement.
