Kizito Lwanga last public appearance, before his death, was on Friday at the Uganda Joint Christian Council’s Way of the Cross. The event took place near St. Paul’s Cathedral in Namirembe in Kampala.
In his last public appearance before his death, Kizito Lwanga was at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Namirembe in Kampala taking part in the Uganda Joint Christian Council’s Way of the Cross event last Friday.
He decried continued disappearances, kidnaps, and killings in Uganda as chairperson of the Uganda Joint Christian Council (UJCC), and urged the security agencies to respect human rights.
In addition to calling for more COVID-19 vaccine safety campaigns by the Government, Lwanga urged Christian leaders to lead by example and sow seeds of justice and peace.
”We are calling on all religious leaders to uphold the spiritual and moral basis of our country, in order to ward off violence, hatred and immoral behaviour,” he said.

A statement from the Archdiocese said Lwanga, who was 68 when he passed away, was found dead in his room Saturday morning. His cause of death is still unknown.
”With great sadness, I wish to inform you that Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, his grace, has been called to His heavenly rest. The Archbishop was found dead in his bedroom on Saturday morning.”, said Pius Male Ssentumbwe, the Chancellor of the Archdiocese.
”We express our condolences to all of you dear People of God, notably the Clergy, Religious and Lay faithful of Kampala Archdiocese and the Late Archbishop’s family. May the Almighty God strengthen us all at this difficult time.”
”In the meantime, we wish him Eternal Rest, and may your perpetual light shine upon him, and that he may rest in peace, Amen.”
