On Wednesday, three white men were indicted by a grand jury in the killing of Ahmaud Arbery. African-American Mr Arbery was jogging on Feb. 23, the accused pursued him and shot him. The accused were Gregory and Travis McMichael, a father and son, as well as William “Roddie” Bryan.
Cope County Georgia District Attorney Joyette Holmes announced the nine counts. They include malicious murder, aggravated murder and a criminal attempt to commit imprisonment.
Before the collision, McMichaels found themselves armed with a handgun and a firearm and was driving a pickup truck in the Chatela Shores neighbourhood of Brunswick. Mr Gregory and Travis McMichael told police he believed arbery was a suspect in several fracture cases.
“This is another step for Ahmaud to seek justice. Our team from the Cobb Judicial Circuit is committed to effectively bringing evidence in this case, and today is no exception, ”said District Attorney Holmes. “As the case progresses, we will continue to seek justice for this family and community.”

Defence attorneys for McMichael’s father and son Franklin and Laura Hoag have warned against rushing to judgment. They say this is not just another story about a white man killing an innocent black man. They insist that Gregory McMichael is not a party to the event.
Young Arbery’s mother, Wanda Cooper-Jones, told NBC Nightly News, “At this point, I believe the case is moving in the right direction. It empowers us to fight. This is its first step – we still have a long way to go. “
