On Wednesday, the New York Knicks announced the appointment of William Wesley as executive vice president. Wesley is not an average fan’s well-known name but for decades a man named “World Wide Wes” has been a power broker in the NBA

The move is not like a complete shock. New York Knicks president Leon Ross said in a statement that he has been close to Wesley for more than 40 years. Both are from the South Jersey / Philadelphia area. They have worked together at Agency CAA for the past decade.

Before that, Wesley’s role in the NBA and the basketball world as a whole was difficult to back down. It is subject to some intrigue.

Wesley met Michael Jordan in the 1990s and started working in one of Jordan’s basketball camps. Wesley has been working with Jordan, Allen Iverson, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and other legends over the years. He’s called a patch guy.

According to sources, he is the best at building relationships and has a “boy” for everything. He’s the guy that NBA players call when they need something. In 2010 Bill Simmons wrote that Wesley “carries more league weight than everyone else.”

Ross represented LeBron James from 2005 to 2012, when James left the CAA to join Klutch Sports, started by his friend Rich Paul. During James’ time at CAA, he and Wesley worked closely together.

He is said to have positioned himself in the “core” of James’ anticipated free agency in 2010. One writer, Wes, wrote, “He is everywhere, everyone knows.”

How involved is World Wide Wes today?

It is unclear whether Wesley is still a power broker in the NBA. In recent years, Wesley has been a coaching agent, most famously linked to Kentucky’s John Calipari. Wesley assisted with Caliber’s recruiting efforts.

“This has been the occasion I wanted to take,” Wesley said in a team statement. “My long history, and respect for Jim Dolan and Leon Rose as well as the chance to be in the New York Knicks.” “I hope that I will join the current employees and move the organisation.”

In an interview with MSG Networks on Wednesday, Ross attributed Wesley’s ability to build relationships, saying he was an asset to the Knicks. While his exact role at the moment is somewhat ambiguous, his links to a team that is stuck in a permanent rebuild.
