Spice Diana has backed Azawi in calling out the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), labeling it as “fraudulent.”
The UNMF, which was set up last year to safeguard artists’ rights, has seen support dwindle. Many members have left, citing delays, broken promises, and lost values. Spice Diana, a founding member, shared her frustration, saying she never saw any financial gain from the federation and felt its focus had strayed from advocating for copyright law.
Diana’s comments echo Azawi’s recent criticism of musicians for staying silent on important issues like corruption affecting Ugandans. Azawi pointed out the irony of artists enjoying public support while avoiding tough conversations about their fans’ concerns.
Azawi also suggested that some wealthy musicians might be kept quiet by government influence. While Spice Diana recognizes the challenges Ugandans face, she admits she doesn’t have solid proof that certain musicians have been swayed by government money.
