The highly anticipated 82nd edition of the Uganda Open Golf Championship is set to take place at the Uganda Golf Club on Thursday, October 12, 2023. The event was officially announced during a press launch at the Uganda Golf Club, where the iconic whisky brand, Johnnie Walker, was revealed as the title sponsor for the JW Uganda Golf Open 2023, with a significant sponsorship worth Shs 410 million.
Christine Kyokunda, the Johnnie Walker Brand Manager, highlighted the brand’s commitment to enhancing the golfing experience. She shared plans for immersive experiences at the Hospitality villages, featuring dedicated lounges and exciting 19th hole experiences, blending golf and whisky.
James Ochen, Head of Sales Operations at Uganda Breweries, expressed excitement about the partnership, emphasizing their long-standing support for golf. The event will unfold at the picturesque par-70 golf course at Kitante, featuring a range of competitions such as the Ladies Open, Seniors Open, Amateur Open, Pro-Am, and the eagerly awaited Professional Open.
Emmanuel Wamala, the Captain of Uganda Golf Club, affirmed the course’s impeccable readiness for the tournament and thanked the title sponsor, Johnnie Walker, for their invaluable support. Moses Matsiko, the President of Uganda Golf Union, anticipated a record-breaking turnout, highlighting the opportunity for golfers of all categories to showcase their talents.
The event garnered additional sponsorship from notable partners, including NBS Sport, Pinnacle Security, Aquafina, HTC, Case Medservices, Medisell, Orchard Interiors, and Absa Bank, contributing Shs 200 million and sponsoring the Pro-Am tournament.
