Matt B’s Alkebulan II just took home the Best Global Music Album award at the 2025 Grammys, and Ugandan songwriters Rulz and Zigi Nana are celebrating big time. The duo played a key role in the project, bringing their writing skills to an album that beat out some serious competition.
Rulz couldn’t hide his excitement, taking to X (formerly Twitter) to share his joy: “GRAMMY WINNING SONGWRITER #GRAMMYs Allah is so good to me!!!!!”
Unfortunately, both Rulz and Zigi Nana missed the chance to attend the ceremony in the U.S. due to visa delays. But even from afar, they were beyond thrilled to see their work recognized on such a massive stage.
Alkebulan II won over some strong contenders, including Paisajes by Ciro Hurtado, HEIS by Nigerian star Rema, Historias De Un Flamenco by Antonio Rey, and Born in the Wild by Tems.
Rema and Tems were hoping to follow in Burna Boy’s footsteps—he won in 2021 with Twice As Tall, making history for Nigeria. Their loss means Nigerian artists have now had 16 nominations in this category but only one win since King Sunny Ade was first nominated back in 1999 for Odu.
