Police in Nagalama have rescued 51 people from a suspected human trafficking operation disguised as a job recruitment scheme.

On Tuesday morning, April 2, around 10:00 am, police got a tip about a group of people being tricked by AIM Global Alliance, a networking company operating in Naggalama division. According to reports, the company lured victims with fake promises of employment.

Each person was reportedly asked to bring Shs150,000, supposedly for job training. But after collecting the money and confiscating their phones, the recruiters allegedly pressured the victims to convince friends and family to join—and to pay even more. In some cases, victims’ relatives were told to pay Shs1.5 million to buy company products, with the promise that selling them would lead to big profits.

Victims were told they could eventually earn up to Shs1 million per month, depending on how many people they recruited and how much they sold.

The police conducted rescue operations in several locations around Kalagi:

  • In Kakola village, Kyabakadde parish, Kyampisi sub-county, 14 victims—3 men and 11 women—were found crammed into a single room.
  • In Kalagi village, Naggalama A ward, Nakifuma-Naggalama town council, 20 victims (10 men and 10 women) were also found in one small room.
  • In Bbosa village, Kyabakadde parish, 14 more victims—6 men and 8 women—were discovered in the same condition.

All the victims had been recruited by two individuals: Kasule Zephaniah and Nantima Evelyn. Police have arrested both suspects and are holding them at Nagalama as investigations continue.

Authorities say they’re following up to identify more victims and potential accomplices. They’re also warning the public to be cautious of companies that demand upfront payments in exchange for job offers.
