KURA Asset Managers has entered Uganda’s investment management market, targeting Ugandans living abroad with shilling and dollar investment funds as the country’s collective investment sector continues to grow.

The firm, which is licensed and regulated by the Capital Markets Authority, offers the KURA Income Fund and KURA Dollar Fund. Its services also include private wealth management and family wealth planning.

KURA says people living outside Uganda can invest after completing identification and verification requirements. Its website says diaspora clients can invest in Ugandan shillings or U.S. dollars and initiate withdrawals through its digital platform, with proceeds paid to a registered Ugandan or international bank account.

Chief Executive Officer Ronald Kasolo said the company sees the diaspora as part of a broader change in how Ugandans approach their finances.

“We want investment management to become an intentional part of how Ugandans build, preserve and transfer wealth across generations,” Kasolo said.

For many Ugandans living abroad, remittances are used to meet household expenses, including school fees, family support, construction and business activities. KURA is positioning professionally managed investment funds as another way for some diaspora clients to deploy money in Uganda without having to manage individual investments from abroad.

Under a collective investment scheme, money from multiple investors is pooled and managed according to the objectives and rules of the fund. The value of investments can rise or fall, and returns are not guaranteed. KURA says its funds are subject to risks including market, interest-rate, liquidity, credit, currency and inflation risks.

The company’s entry comes as Uganda’s collective investment sector has expanded sharply.

Capital Markets Authority figures show assets under collective investment schemes increased from Shs731 billion in June 2021 to Shs6.02 trillion by March 2026. Over the same period, funded investor accounts increased from about 29,000 to more than 220,000.

Recent reporting has put the value of assets in the sector above Shs7 trillion, with The Monitor reporting Shs7.06 trillion in September 2026.

The growth has increased the number of Ugandans participating in professionally managed investment products. KURA says its funds are intended for individuals, families, businesses, institutions and diaspora investors.

The firm says its investment funds can be accessed with relatively modest minimums. Its website lists a minimum investment of Shs100,000 for the KURA Income Fund, while the KURA Dollar Fund has a minimum of $5,000.

Kasolo said the company wants investing to become part of routine financial planning rather than an activity limited to people with large amounts of capital.

KURA’s launch also comes as the Ugandan government continues to promote greater investment by citizens living abroad. The government has identified investment funds and other financial products as potential channels through which diaspora savings can contribute to investment in Uganda.

For diaspora investors, KURA says the onboarding process requires government-issued identification and other know-your-customer documents. The company says unit trusts are valued daily and redemption proceeds are normally paid within three business days.
