The Uganda Rugby Union has extended its partnership with MTN MoMo, a move officials say will strengthen national rugby teams as they prepare for a busy stretch of international competition.
At a signing ceremony in Kampala, Dennis Kakonge, MTN’s General Manager for Corporate and Legal Services, said the renewed support is tied to the company’s broader ambitions.
“Our continued partnership with the Uganda Rugby Union,” he said, “demonstrates our dedication to building the largest and most valuable platform in Uganda.”
He added, “This is in line with MTN’s Ambition 2025.”

Peter Odong, the Honorary Secretary of the rugby union, called the partnership timely.
“It’s a boost to our preparations for this year’s continental and international competitions,” he said, noting the scale of what lies ahead.
That includes the Rugby Africa Cup 2025, which kicks off at Namboole Stadium from July 8 to 19. The tournament will double as a qualifying round for the 2027 Men’s Rugby World Cup in Australia. Uganda will go up against some of the top-ranked teams on the continent for a spot.
As part of the deal, MTN MoMo will also subsidize ticket costs for fans. A UGX 30,000 ticket will go for UGX 10,000. VVIP access, typically UGX 150,000, will also be available at a reduced price.
