MultiChoice Uganda has unveiled a new weekly payment option for its DStv and GOtv subscribers, in a move aimed at providing greater flexibility for viewers facing economic constraints.
The initiative, branded “Ka Weekie”, was launched on Tuesday morning at Mestil Hotel in Nsambya, Kampala. It allows customers to access premium TV content—from local dramas and children’s programming to football and international series—for as little as UGX 5,000 a week.
Unveiled on Tuesday at Mestil Hotel in Kampala, the initiative is being hailed by the company as a “game changer” for the Ugandan pay-TV landscape.
“This is a campaign that allows our customers to make more flexible payments and enjoy all our content,” said Rinaldi Jamugisa, Public Relations and Communications Manager at MultiChoice Uganda. “It caters to those who would rather not commit to the 30-day subscription.”
The weekly model is available across a wide range of existing packages, from GOtv Lite to Supa+ and DStv Lumba to Compact. Customers can sign up through the *206# USSD code or via the MyDStv and MyGOtv apps.
A response to everyday realities
The decision to introduce the weekly payment option stems from growing customer demand for more adaptable services.
“Many of our customers don’t always have money for a full month,” said Colin Asiimwe, Head of Marketing at MultiChoice Uganda. “That doesn’t mean they can’t afford to watch TV—it just means they need flexibility.”
He pointed to real-life examples: parents seeking affordable children’s content during school holidays or Airbnb hosts needing short-term access to premium programming. “Ka Weekie fits into their lifestyle,” he added.
The company says it hopes the initiative will not only serve existing customers, but also reconnect viewers who may have dropped off due to financial constraints.

Not a replacement, but an expansion
MultiChoice is positioning Ka Weekie not as a replacement for its monthly plans, but as an additional option for customers seeking control over how and when they pay.
“It increases choice and ensures that no one is left behind,” said Jamugisa. “We are committed to innovation and to responding to our customers’ needs.”
As of April 1st, 2025, the weekly rates include UGX 5,000 for DStv Lumba, UGX 14,000 for Access, UGX 22,000 for Family, and UGX 37,000 for Compact. Comparable reductions apply to GOtv packages.
Industry analysts say the move could signal a broader shift in how digital television providers adapt to evolving consumer habits in African markets.
“We are leading the way in customer-centric innovation in the digital entertainment space,” Asiimwe said.
