Azawi, known as Priscilla Zawedde, has recently released her second album, titled ‘Sankofa,’ following her debut album ‘African Music,’ which was launched two years ago. ‘Sankofa’ signifies the concept of looking back to the past to shape the future. This album comprises 16 tracks, along with a bonus track, bringing the total to 17 songs. It was officially released on October 9th and is available on various streaming platforms.
The primary producer for the album is Bangar Boi, who contributed to over 10 of the 16 songs. Interestingly, Bangar Boi is a student from the Swangz Academy. Azawi also collaborated with other talented producers for ‘Sankofa,’ including Artin Pro, Groovy World, and Steve Keys.
Among the tracks in the album, ‘Summer Bae,’ a collaboration with Jamaican Dancehall artist Konshens, and ‘Njagala Vibe,’ featuring Kenya’s Sauti Sol, have stood out as favorites among Azawi’s fans.
Azawi chose to collaborate with six male artists for this album, such as Konshens, Sauti Sol, Bensol, Elijah Kitaka, and Mike Kayihura, without including any female artists. She explained that working with male artists is easier since they can write their own music, and they tend to be more open to new ideas and confident.
The album’s first music video, ‘Omwenge,’ was released a few days before the rest of the projects. Directed by Marvin Musoke, the video offers a glimpse into local hangouts while aligning with the song’s lyrical message. It serves as an excellent introduction to the highly anticipated album and showcases the quality associated with Azawi’s work.
