The International University of East Africa (IUEA) has announced the start of admissions for its August intake, offering a one-year bridging programme aimed at students who did not meet the direct entry requirements for diploma or degree courses.
The Higher Education Certificate programme is designed to provide foundational knowledge and skills in key subject areas, enabling students to qualify for university-level study. It targets those who completed Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) but fall short of the minimum qualifications for direct admission.
In a message shared on social media, IUEA said: “You didn’t qualify directly for university? No stress because IUEA has got your back! Our one-year course gets you into your dream degree whether you’re into Science or Arts. IUEA helps you level up.”
The programme is recognised by the National Council for Higher Education and has been adopted by several institutions as a remedial pathway for students seeking to enter higher education.
University officials say the initiative is not only aimed at boosting enrolment figures in Uganda but also across the wider East African region.
They also describe the course as a more time- and cost-effective alternative to retaking exams or enrolling in a two-year diploma programme. Students who complete the certificate can proceed directly into undergraduate degree courses.
Admissions for the August 2025 intake are now open.
