Popular Ugandan musician Douglas Mayanja, better known as Weasel, is in the hospital after an incident in which his partner, Sandra Teta, allegedly ran him over with a car.
The altercation happened just after midnight Thursday outside Shan’s Bar in Munyonyo, according to Kampala police.
“It is alleged that Sandra Teta drove and knocked down Weasel using motor vehicle registration number UBH 148Y,” said Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy public relations officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police.
Police say Teta was arrested early Thursday morning on suspicion of unlawful wounding. The car involved in the incident has since been impounded and taken to Kabalagala Police Station as evidence.

Weasel was first taken to Mukwaya Hospital and later transferred to St. Francis Hospital Nsambya, where he remains under medical care.
“Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing,” Owoyesigyire said. “Further details will be availed in due course.”
The couple’s relationship has long been troubled and at times violent, according to prior police reports and public accounts. Weasel, the younger brother of musician Joseph Mayanja — known as Dr. Jose Chameleone — has had multiple public fallouts with Teta, often ending up at police stations.
Despite several separations, the two have repeatedly reunited — usually after interventions by family and close friends.
According to a report published by The Independent UG, Teta told detectives the confrontation began earlier that day.
She said Weasel had chased her and their children from their home. In response, she sought help from his family.
“When he chased me with our children, I took the matter to his parents, and I thought they would help us resolve the matter,” she told police, as quoted in the report. “They instead ordered me to get back to our home, and we sorted ourselves out.”
Teta said the situation worsened when she returned. “When I returned, Weasel continued abusing and assaulting me,” she claimed. “He then drove to the bar and I followed him there. We quarrelled again, and I later entered the vehicle and knocked him down.”
Police say updates will follow as investigations continue.
