Ugandan digital artist Natasha Karungi, known professionally as Kashushu, is set to present a new solo exhibition, “FEARLESS: A Metamorphosis Story,” from Nov. 14 to 22 at Summit Residence in Naguru, according to an announcement about the exhibition.

The exhibition is expected to combine digital illustration with wearable fashion art, interactive gaming and extended reality installations.

The project follows a 222-day drawing challenge in which Karungi says she produced one original work each day. According to the announcement, the resulting body of work is organised around four themes: love, femininity, spirituality and self-awareness.

The exhibition takes its structure from the stages of a butterfly’s metamorphosis, using the process as a framework for presenting the artist’s creative development.

“I started this daily challenge to strip away fear and face the daunting void of a blank page every single day,” Karungi said.

“The goal was never simply to accumulate 222 individual pieces; it was about cultivating the quiet grit to show up until fear completely surrendered its power.”

“FEARLESS documents that raw, beautiful process of transforming from the inside out, and I want our audience to feel that exact surge of liberation through sound, art, technology and interactive play.”

The exhibition is also expected to include digital collectibles, interactive experiences, immersive installations and networking spaces. The opening event is scheduled for Nov. 14 and is expected to bring together artists, collectors, technology professionals and other members of the creative sector, according to the announcement.

Karungi has built her practice around digital illustration and has exhibited her work in Uganda and internationally. Her portfolio includes projects involving NFTs, digital exhibitions and collaborations with brands. Her website lists projects including “We Do We,” “HUE DIARIES,” “Surfaces 3 Exhibition” and “Shaaku Shaaku.”

She was also the lead artist on a project associated with Smirnoff Uganda. The Africa International Design Awards identifies Karungi as the lead designer on one of its winning projects and describes her as a self-taught contemporary digital illustrator who works across several digital mediums.

Her work with Smirnoff has also been documented in Ugandan media. The Daily Monitor reported that she curated the “We Do We” digital-art collaboration, which brought together artists working in illustration, animation, architecture and other disciplines.

Karungi has previously presented solo work in Uganda, including “Okushururirwa: Revelations in Color,” an exhibition featuring more than 50 pieces produced over a two-year period.

“FEARLESS” will extend that focus on digital art into an exhibition built around the artist’s 222-day drawing project, with technology and interactive experiences forming part of the presentation.
