Since the awards were established by the Black Entertainment Television network in 2001, they have recognized outstanding achievements by black entertainers in various categories, including music, acting, sports, among others.
Africa has had several acts recognized for the Best International Act: Africa and Best International Act categories at BET, including Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Wizkid, Black Coffee, Davido, Ice Prince, 2Baba and D’banj since 2011.
Burna Boy is currently the Best International Act winner of the BET Awards, and he will be hoping that he can defend the honor he has consistently held since 2019.

The ‘Onyeka’ singer said: “I want to use this opportunity to remind you that sometime around 1835, there was a mission to convert the nation of Africa into a pauper. If black lives are to matter, then Africa must matter.”
