Comedian and actor Kevin Hart will host the 25th edition of the BET Awards, set to take place on Tuesday, 10 June 2025, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
The annual event, known as “Culture’s Biggest Night,” will air live on BET Africa at 2:00am CAT, with a repeat broadcast later that evening. This year marks a milestone for the awards, which have become a defining celebration of Black creativity and excellence across music, film, television, and sport.
Hart, a four-time Emmy winner and two-time New York Times bestselling author, is no stranger to the BET stage. His return as host comes amid what organisers describe as plans for a “show-stopping” anniversary edition, highlighting 25 years of cultural impact.
“I love a celebration. It’s a chance to reflect, cherish, and honour life’s unforgettable moments,” Hart said. “I’m truly honoured to host the 25th BET Awards and celebrate the culture’s biggest night. It’s a Black-Tie affair, and you’re all invited.”
The 45-year-old entertainer has a longstanding relationship with BET, having hosted “Comic View: One Night Stand” in 2008 and starred in the hit parody series Real Husbands of Hollywood, which premiered in 2013. More recently, his production company Hartbeat launched Lil Kev, an animated series based on his early life, now streaming on BET+.
This year’s awards will also shine a spotlight on African talent, reflecting the continent’s growing influence on the global music scene.
Nigerian singer Ayra Starr leads the African nominees, receiving three nods including Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, Best New Artist, and Best International Act. Fellow Nigerian artist Tems is nominated twice in the BET Her category for tracks from her debut album, Born In The Wild.
Other nominees from Africa include Burna Boy, Rema, Tyla, Black Sherif, and Uncle Waffles, with Shallipopi, Maglera Doe Boy, Abigail Chams, Dlala Thukzin, and Odeal recognised in the Best New International Act category.
The BET Awards have long positioned themselves as a platform for recognising Black talent across the diaspora, and the 25th anniversary show is expected to deliver a mix of tributes, performances, and moments of reflection on a quarter-century of cultural milestones.
The ceremony will also be available via DStv Stream and GOtv Stream, with viewers able to access the show using MultiChoice’s Ka Weekie subscription package.
