President Museveni has named Hajjat Sharifah Buzeki as the new Executive Director of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA). She’s now stepping into a high-pressure role, following in the footsteps of Jennifer Musisi and Dorothy Kisaka.
Buzeki isn’t new to leadership—she’s been the Commissioner for Human Resource Management at the Ministry of Public Service. She’s got some serious qualifications too, with a Master’s in Public Administration, a Post-Graduate Diploma in HR, and a Bachelor’s in Social Sciences, all from the Islamic University in Uganda. Plus, she’s done courses in conflict management, leadership, and monitoring and evaluation, so she’s bringing a lot to the table.
This appointment didn’t come easy. She was the only woman on a shortlist that included some big names like Sydney Asubo, an anti-financial crime expert, and Gabriel Atama, a former Chief Administrative Officer for Tororo. She beat them all to land the job.
Her role comes with challenges, especially since the last ED, Dorothy Kisaka, and her deputy, David Luyimbazi, were fired after the Kiteezi landfill tragedy in August 2024, which killed over 30 people. They’re still facing charges over that.
In addition, Benon Kigenyi has been named the new Deputy Executive Director for KCCA. The Deputy Presidential Press Secretary, Faruk Kirunda, confirmed this, saying the appointments are awaiting formal approval.
Buzeki’s got her work cut out for her, with issues like waste management, city planning, and infrastructure staring her down. Let’s see how she tackles these challenges and makes her mark on the city.
