Lucky Ariho has been elected the 37th guild president of Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST). He won the election on Friday with 2,150 votes, beating his closest rival, Henry Ssebyatika from the National Resistance Movement (NRM), who got 1,451 votes.
Ariho is a fourth-year student studying Medicine, while Ssebyatika is a second-year student working towards a degree in Science with Education.

After Ariho’s win, NUP president Bobi Wine took to X (formerly Twitter) to congratulate him and thank him for representing the party with pride. However, he also reminded Ariho to stay cautious about the challenges ahead and to avoid falling into traps that might steer him away from the people’s struggle for freedom.
“Now that you have won, please be on your guard against the many traps that will be laid for you to betray the people’s struggle for freedom. I charge you to remain vigilant at all times.,”
Kyagulanyi also thanked the NUP team in Western Uganda and the NUP Institutions team for their support in helping Ariho achieve victory.
Ariho will take over from Daisy Arinda Kankiriho, the outgoing guild president.
