Nigerian singer Mr Eazi has unveiled his debut album, “The Evil Genius.” This release, under his independent record label emPawa Africa, is now available for streaming and download on major digital platforms such as Apple Music, Spotify, and Audiomack.
Mr Eazi, known for his significant presence in the Afrobeats genre, has built a seven-year career with over four billion global streams and collaborations with renowned artists like Beyoncé, J Balvin, Bad Bunny, and Nicki Minaj.
“The Evil Genius,” recorded over two years in various locations including Accra, Cotonou, Lagos, London, Los Angeles, and New York, fuses various musical styles like Afrobeats, Afropop, gospel, hiplife, highlife, and folklore into a pan-African fusion.
The album features international producers such as Kel-P (Nigeria), Michaël Brun (Haiti), Knucks (UK), and Nonso Amadi (Canada), as well as guest artists like Grammy Award-winning legend Angélique Kidjo, Nigerian star Joeboy, and the South African group Soweto Gospel Choir.
The album delves deeply into themes of love, betrayal, loneliness, and family, structured into three acts. The first chapter reflects on success and fame, followed by a love-themed movement and concluding with a suite of spiritual anthems.
Mr Eazi’s album also features an ambitious visual art component. Sixteen unique physical art pieces, commissioned from contemporary visual artists across Africa, represent each track on the album. This unique collaboration between the pop music and fine art industries in Africa aims to highlight the power of such creative cooperation.
Before the album’s release, Mr Eazi held multi-sensory exhibition listening experiences in Ghana and London. Further exhibition locations are expected to be announced.
