Former State Minister for Primary Education, Joyce Mpanga, will be officially buried on Thursday following her death on Saturday, November 18, 2023. The government, as announced by the Minister for Presidency, Ms Milly Babalanda, confirmed an official burial granted by the President. The National Organising Committee (N.O.C) and the family will release a detailed burial program.
Joyce Mpanga is noted for her contributions to women’s emancipation and her support for the Kingdom of Buganda and Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II. The Buganda Kingdom’s official burial program began with a service and vigil at the deceased’s residence in Lungujja, Rubaga Division-Kampala on Sunday. Additional services are scheduled at St Stephen’s Church, Lungujja today (Monday), with the vigil continuing until Tuesday at the deceased’s residence.
On Tuesday at 7 pm, another service will be held at the residence, and on Wednesday, the body will be conveyed to St Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe, for the main funeral service at 2 pm. Ms. Mpanga’s remains will be laid to rest at Maya, Wakiso District, on Thursday at 2 pm.
