CBS All Access confirmed that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will be going to the streaming platform.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. CBS All Access confirmed that a new range of the Star Trek franchise will be going to the streaming platform on Friday, or at Stardate 73835.9 according to the TrekGuide.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will be set in the early years of the Star Trek timeline, and Anson Mount for Captain Pike, Ethan Beck as Mr Spock, and Rebecca Romijn as Number One.
Pike, Spock, and Number One are the classic figures of the original series, 2017’s Star Trek: Discovery is the first iteration of the franchise to show actors Mount, Beck and Romij in these roles. They quickly became a fan favourite, creating online demand for a spinoff that included all three.
After reappearing in a limited series of Star Trek: Short Treks, the trio will finally return for a full-length season in the upcoming CBS All Access production.
“When we said that we heard fans love Pike, Number One and Spock when they boarded Star Trek: Discovery last season, we meant it,” said executive producer Alex Kurtzman. “These iconic characters have a profound history in the Star Trek franchise, but their stories are yet to be told.”
According to a CBS report, Strange New Worlds will serve as the prequel to the original series, and the characters will follow shortly before the legendary Captain Kirk Enterprise arrives.
Mount, Beck and Romijn made a joint announcement on YouTube on Friday, along with the CBS press release.
In the video, Mount commented, “We now have more material to announce at a time when most of the planet is in pain,” and “we’re going to be working on a classic Star Trek show. This is about hope and the future. “
