Uganda Airlines has signed a new interline partnership with Air India, a move the carriers say will give travelers easier access between Africa, the Indian subcontinent and other destinations.
The agreement took effect Aug. 25 and allows passengers to book a single ticket that links Uganda Airlines’ hub at Entebbe International Airport with Air India’s main gateway in Mumbai. Travelers flying from Uganda can now connect to more than 25 Indian cities, including Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata. International links through Air India will also reach Bangkok, Singapore, Colombo, Dhaka and London Heathrow.

The deal works in both directions. Passengers in India and Asia can fly Air India into Entebbe, then transfer to Uganda Airlines routes serving countries such as South Africa, Tanzania, Nigeria, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
“We are excited to launch this partnership with Air India, an iconic brand in global aviation,” Uganda Airlines Chief Executive Officer Jenifer Bamuturaki said in a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter. “This interline agreement is a significant step in our strategy to connect Uganda to Africa and beyond. It provides our customers with a smooth, single-ticket travel experience to dozens of new destinations, strengthening economic and cultural ties between our regions.”
Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer at Air India, echoed that message. “We are happy to partner with Uganda Airlines, enhancing connectivity between India and Africa,” he said. “This partnership not only provides our customers with seamless access to Uganda and an extended network across Africa but also warmly welcomes Uganda Airlines’ passengers to explore Air India’s extensive routes within India and beyond, fostering stronger economic and cultural ties between our regions.”
Uganda Airlines, based at Entebbe, is the country’s national carrier. The government re-established the airline in 2018, nearly two decades after the original company folded, and launched commercial flights the following year. Today it operates a small fleet of Bombardier CRJ900s for regional routes and Airbus A330-800s for long-haul services.
