KAMPALA | LIFESTYLE UGANDA ( http://lifestyleuganda.com/) — MTN Mobile Money Uganda has launched a new feature that enables MoMo users to reverse a wrongly sent transaction by initiating a reversal themselves.

This implies that MTN MoMo customers shall now be able to save their money sent wrongly or to the wrong recipients on their own to avoid losing it.

The wrongly sent money has been a major sources of customer complaints and a significant traffic driver for MTN’s call centers and service centers. Name verification was implemented down the road to diminish this risk, however, a variety of factors still contribute to wrongly sent money.

Through the self-initiated reverse feature of MTN MoMo, customers can initiate a reversal at any time by dialing *165*8# yes and choosing option 7. Once the reverse is initiated, MTN’s call center can be reached at 100 to complete the process.

According to Richard Yego, the MTN MoMo Uganda Ltd Managing Director, this first-of-its-kind initiative launched last week allows customers to save money that was wrongly sent, through a self-reversal function.

“The MTN MoMo Self-initiated reversal shall enable customers to instantly reverse money sent wrongly to avoid cash-out by the wrong recipients. This process is faster and easier. However, do remember to contact our call center by dialing 100 once you have blocked the money in the wallet as the real process of reversal will require you to get in touch with us,” Yego said.

The Self-Initiated Reversal money, according to Mr Yego, will be held for six days from the date it was initiated by the sender. If the reversal isn’t completed, it will be returned to the wrong party.

Customers are advised to call 100 after initiating a reversal in order to have the process completed in time. Alternatively, the wrong recipient can approve the reversal. This is a precaution taken to prevent reversals of genuine transactions.

The MTN MoMo service is only valid for peer-to-peer (customer-to-customer) transactions made within the last 24 hours with a minimum amount of UGX 500. If funds are partially used by the wrong recipient, MTN’s customer service will notify the sender and assist them.

With this initiative, MTN delivers a next-generation customer experience that is defined by convenience, safety, and peace of mind, enabling everyone to benefit from a modern connected world.
