One of Uganda’s oldest insurance companies has unveiled a new identity after more than three decades in business.
First Insurance Company Limited (FICO) has officially rebranded as Mirai General Insurance, marking a new chapter following its acquisition by Pride Global, a multinational insurance and financial services group based in Singapore.
The announcement was made at a launch event held at Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Kampala on Friday.
The name “Mirai,” derived from the Japanese word for “future” or “new ray of hope,” signals what company officials describe as a renewed focus on innovation, resilience, and growth.
Uganda becomes the first country within the Pride Global network to adopt the Mirai brand, with further rollouts expected across parts of Africa and Asia.
Speaking at the launch, Mirai’s chief executive Joseph Nsubuga said the rebrand represents more than a name change.
“This transformation is a shift in mindset—from a local to a global perspective,” he said. “We want to offer world-class service while holding on to the trust that FICO built over the years.”
Nsubuga said the new backing from Pride Global will give the company more room to expand its services, improve customer experience, and adapt to emerging risks.
Clients with existing policies will not be affected by the change, according to the company. Officials say they can expect faster claims processing, a broader range of products, and an upgraded digital platform designed to simplify service access.
Other changes include a dedicated marketing and client experience team, an expanded agency network across the country, and new insurance products tailored for sectors such as technology, energy, and agriculture.
Founded more than 30 years ago, FICO built its reputation as a locally driven insurer. Now, as Mirai General Insurance, it enters a new phase—looking to balance international reach with a distinctly Ugandan footprint.
