Almorie Nagayi, 19, will represent Uganda at the Miss World 2027 competition in Tanzania after winning the Miss Uganda 2026/27 title in Kampala.
Nagayi, who hails from Masaka City, was crowned in the early hours of Sunday, October 11, at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel, where she beat 21 other contestants to take the national title.
She succeeds Trivia Elle Muhoza, who handed over the crown at the grand finale.
Nakato Bridget Prudence finished as first runner-up, while Lukia Balunywa was named second runner-up. Mulungi Angel Liz won the Miss Popularity title following a public vote.
The competition took place as the Miss Uganda Foundation marked 15 years under the leadership of Brenda Nanyonjo.
Financial literacy at the centre of her project
Nagayi’s Beauty With a Purpose initiative focuses on financial literacy and vocational training for women and girls, with the aim of helping them manage money, develop practical skills and establish small businesses.
The project forms part of her work beyond the pageant as she prepares to represent Uganda internationally.
According to the Miss World organisation, Nagayi is expected to compete in the 2027 edition of the global beauty pageant, scheduled to take place in Tanzania in September.
The competition will bring together national representatives from different countries, with contestants also expected to showcase projects addressing challenges in their communities.
Interest in diplomacy
Beyond modelling, Nagayi has expressed an interest in diplomacy and international relations. She traces that interest to her participation in a Uganda Model United Nations conference.
She identifies her mother as her role model and lists swimming, modelling and travelling among her interests.
Nagayi has also acknowledged the role of youth development programmes in supporting young people’s ambitions.
In a social media post reflecting on her participation in the Early Careers Program, she thanked the United States Embassy in Uganda and the American Centre for providing learning opportunities for young people.
“Greatness isn’t given, it’s earned,” she wrote.
The grand finale featured performances by Abeeka Band, Grace Nakimera and Karole Kasita as guests gathered for the announcement of the new queen.
Uganda’s history at Miss World
Uganda first participated in Miss World in 1967, when Rosemary Salmon represented the country.
Nagayi’s victory continues that participation, placing her among Ugandan titleholders preparing to take the country’s representation to the international stage.
Her immediate focus will be preparing for the 2027 competition while advancing the financial literacy and vocational training work outlined in her Beauty With a Purpose project.
