KAMPALA | LIFESTYLE UGANDA ( https://lifestyleuganda.com/) — Nigerian singer Ahmed Ololade, also known as Asake, has been named the platform’s Artist of the Year for 2022 on the streaming platform Audiomack.
With this accolade, he crowns an impressive run that has seen him widely dubbed Nigeria’s biggest breakout artist of 2022.
The recognition culminates a stellar year for the musician, who was widely hailed as Nigeria’s breakout star for 2022.
“This year, Asake redefined what it means to be a breakout artist,” said Audiomack.”
“Amidst an explosion of amapiano, and West African music’s continued global rise, Asake has conquered cross-cultural fusion like no one else.”
”Hearing his music at the clubs and kickbacks, and seeing him in major magazines, it’s easy to think Asake’s lightning ascent is at least partly staged. More truthfully, the artist seized a Promethean fire, arriving right as the world was ready to open itself up to dance.”
Asake is receiving this recognition following the success of his debut album, Mr Money With The Vibe, which is the highest-charting debut album by a Nigerian artist ever on Audiomack.
A member of YBNL Nation/Empire, Asake also achieved a series of milestones in 2022, including being inducted into the YouTube Black Voices Fund Music Class of 2023 and winning Artist of the Year at the African Muzik Magazine Awards.
After surpassing 100 million streams on Boomplay, Asake was inducted into Boomplay’s Golden Club a couple of months ago after signing a brand ambassador deal with Parimatch. He has also been named among the top streamed artists in sub-Saharan Africa by rival streaming service Spotify.
Known for his innovative blend of Afrobeats and Amapiano, there have been numerous hits from Asake, including ‘Omo Ope’, ‘Sungba’, ‘Peace Be Unto You (PBUY)’, ‘Organise’, and ‘Joha’.
Afrobeats heavyweights Burna Boy, Fireboy DML, and Tiwa Savage have all collaborated with him.
