Rwandan artist Bruce Melodie just dropped his first album, Colourful Generation, and it’s now streaming on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and Deezer.
This 21-track project is a big moment for Bruce, cementing his place as one of East Africa’s top artists. The album mixes Afro-pop, amapiano, and R&B, showing off his versatility. Some standout tracks include When She’s Around (Funga Macho) featuring Shaggy, Niki Minaji, Iyo Foto, Marijuana, and Diva.
Before the release, Bruce said the album was his way of speaking to the younger generations—Gen Z and Gen Alpha. He explained, “This album is for the new generation Gen Z, Gen Alpha. It shows that it’s okay to be seen as different. This album describes our struggles, our happiness, and our perspectives on various matters, while also embracing the stories and melodies in songs.”
The lead single, Beauty on Fire, features Nigerian star Joeboy. Its music video, directed by Bahali Ruth and J. Chretien Munezero, tells a touching story of love and loyalty through tough times. The track’s catchy Afropop beat and heartfelt lyrics perfectly capture Bruce’s ability to fuse raw emotion with melody.
Born and raised in Kigali, Bruce Melodie is no stranger to the spotlight. Known for hits like Katerina, Bado, and Ikinya, he’s one of East Africa’s most celebrated musicians. He even snagged the Best East African Artist award at the 2023 Trace Awards. His collab with Shaggy, When She’s Around (Funga Macho), was a major highlight at the first-ever Trace Music Awards, which aired to over 500 million viewers globally.
Bruce has been on the move promoting Colourful Generation. He headlined Kenya’s Raha Fest in December 2024 and hosted listening parties in Uganda and Rwanda. In 2025, he’s planning more stops across Africa to connect with fans and make an even bigger mark on the global stage.
“Our generation has become so diverse, those of us who are embracing the beauty of diversity, individuality, and inclusivity,” Bruce said. “Colourful Generation tells our stories, our joys, and our love. It’s a celebration of who we are as people and as Africans, and it shows that it’s okay to be different,” he added.
