Ahead of Africa Day on 25 May, the global music streaming service Deezer has revealed the most streamed artists, albums, songs across the continent and Burna Boy tops the list.
KAMPALA | LIFESTYLE UGANDA — Burna Boy leads the list of the most-streamed artists, albums and songs across Africa, according to the global streaming service Deezer, ahead of Africa Day on 25 May.
Deezer is an online music streaming service. As well as streaming music content from record labels such as Universal Music Group, Sony Music and Warner Music Group, Deezer also provides podcasts. Users can access Deezer using their favourite devices online or offline.
In addition, the company has put together playlists that feature artists like Davido, Shekhinah, Tinariwen, Zuchu and Salatiel, among others, celebrating Africa Day through the channel Sounds of Africa.
Twice as Tall by Burna Boy has been the most-streamed album in sub-Saharan Africa and holds the No. 5 positions nationally throughout Africa.
Wizkid’s Made In Lagos ranks No. 2 in the most streamed albums across sub-Saharan Africa, and is No. 7 on the most-streamed albums list across Africa.
The third-best album on the list is A Better Time by Davido, followed by Laughter, Tears & Goosebumps by Fireboy DML and APOLLO by Fireboy DML.
According to Deezer, when looking at music fans all over Africa, hip hop and R&B artists like Drake, Pop Smoke, and The Weeknd are the top-ranked artists.
However, the situation is different when it comes to music lovers in Africa – local sub-Saharan acts, such as Nigeria’s Burna Boy, are predominant. Davido and Wizkid follow.
Sotiris Moldovanos, Deezer Africa’s music editor, said: “Africa Day is a time for reflection and celebration. We are pleased to see local artists across the continent being streamed.
”We’ve created Sounds of Africa to highlight these artists even further, where our fans can discover the variety of sounds that are distinctly and uniquely African.”
