Francis Nyende has taken up the role of Marketing Manager at the Uganda Tourism Board, following a formal appointment announced on Monday. He replaces Claire Mugabi, who stepped down from the position in 2024.
The confirmation came through Simplicious Gessa, UTB’s head of public relations, as the board moves to sharpen its global tourism strategy and position Uganda as a leading travel destination.
Nyende brings more than a decade of experience in marketing, innovation, and brand development across East Africa’s fast-moving consumer goods sector. He began his career in finance and accounting before transitioning into senior marketing roles at Uganda Breweries Limited, where he served as Head of Innovations and Marketing Manager for Mainstream Spirits.
His work in brand and product innovation has been credited with delivering significant commercial growth. He holds a BSc in Business Statistics and an MBA, combining analytical insight with strategic leadership.
Nyende recently completed the Journey to the Boardroom programme, which equips emerging leaders with executive and governance skills.
Known for his passion for consumer-led innovation and building high-performing teams, Nyende is also a tennis and golf enthusiast. He has spoken publicly about his drive to lead businesses that are both transformative and sustainable.

In his new role at UTB, he will be responsible for designing and implementing Uganda’s tourism marketing strategy, overseeing the country’s destination brand manual, and managing advertising campaigns. He will also lead efforts in market trend analysis and competitor benchmarking to help strengthen Uganda’s global tourism appeal.
His appointment comes as the board continues to focus on attracting international visitors to Uganda’s national parks, cultural landmarks, and adventure tourism offerings.
