The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has officially backed musician Mukiibi Sadat, better known as Kalifah Aganaga, for the Kawempe North by-election.
Announcing the decision at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi, FDC president Patrick Amuriat admitted they had initially debated whether to field a candidate. In the end, they chose Aganaga.
“We sat down with our brother Aganaga and saw beyond the dreadlocks—there’s a capable leader in him,” Amuriat said, joking that he once considered growing dreadlocks himself, which got the room laughing.
Robert Centenary, FDC’s deputy president for Western Uganda, backed the decision, drawing parallels to the late Muhammad Ssegirinya’s political rise.
“I spent some time with Mukiibi Sadat and was impressed by his character and qualifications. People often judge based on appearances, but I see him as an inspiration for the youth,” Centenary said, emphasizing FDC’s history of grooming leaders.
Aganaga, the CEO of Bad Character Records, previously sought a National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket for Rubaga South in 2021 but lost to Aloysius Mukasa. He’s since made it clear he’s willing to work with any party that supports his political ambitions.
In the same breath, FDC also confirmed Sharif Ssebunya as its candidate for the vacant Kazo-Angola Ward councillor seat.
