Old Mutual Life Assurance Uganda has announced the appointment of Kenneth Kitariko as Chairman of its Board of Directors, succeeding Sophie Nkuutu, who steps down after a notable tenure.
Mr Kitariko, who joined the board in October 2021, has until now chaired the Board Finance Committee. His appointment marks a continuation of strategic leadership at the insurer, with the company highlighting his “over two decades” of experience in executive roles across fund management, investment advisory, capital markets, and financial regulation within Uganda and the East African region.
A dual graduate, Mr Kitariko holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Essex in the UK and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Saint Joseph’s University in the United States. He also earned a Diploma in Financial Analysis from the Johannesburg School of Finance and has completed executive programmes at Harvard, Columbia, GIBS, and Strathmore business schools.

In a statement shared on X, formerly Twitter, the company expressed confidence in Mr Kitariko’s leadership, stating:
“We are confident that under Mr. Kitariko’s stewardship, the Board will continue to uphold the highest standards of governance while driving the Company’s long-term growth and customer-focused transformation.”
The announcement also paid tribute to outgoing Chairperson Sophie Nkuutu, acknowledging her “dedicated service, exceptional leadership, and profound contribution” to the company’s evolution.
During her tenure, Old Mutual Life Assurance Uganda navigated a rapidly shifting economic landscape, strengthening its market position in the life insurance sector. The company credited Ms Nkuutu with enhancing its governance structures and fostering stakeholder trust.
“Her legacy of excellence in board leadership, stakeholder engagement, and governance will continue to inspire the organisation,” the company said, extending its gratitude for her “tireless efforts” and wishing her success in future pursuits.
