At the recent Zikomo Awards ceremony, Ugandan filmmaker Mathew Nabwiso clinched the title of Best Movie Director for the year 2023. The international awards event, held in Lusaka, Zambia, recognizes outstanding contributions across various industries, with nominations and votes cast by the public from Zambia and beyond.
The ceremony also acknowledged individuals and organizations in the Arts industry and Entrepreneurship, presenting awards to winners in different categories. Notably, the Zikomo Awards extended recognition to humanitarian efforts benefiting communities.
Several Ugandan entertainers, including Mathew and Eleanor Nabwiso of Nabwiso Films, attended the event with hopes of securing an award. Mathew Nabwiso emerged victorious in the fiercely contested Best Movie Director category, surpassing notable African directors like Kenny Rock Mumba, Rodrick Mkamba, and others.
Eleanor Nabwiso, Mathew’s spouse and fellow filmmaker, shared her elation at the well-deserved acknowledgment. Sanyu, also from Uganda, secured a nomination for TV series of the year, while filmmakers Henry Nathan Katongole and Tracy Kababiito represented the country in the best actor and best actress categories.
