Ugandan singer Shafiq Jjingo, better known by his stage name Fik Gaza, has been released from detention for the second time in a week, following a sequence of arrests linked to multiple robbery investigations.
The dancehall artist was first apprehended earlier this month in the Katwe area of Kampala, alongside several associates, on allegations of involvement in a robbery. He was subsequently charged and remanded to prison.
A magistrate later granted him bail, setting a cash bond of UGX 1 million, with his sureties committed at UGX 10 million non-cash.
But in a dramatic turn of events, Gaza was re-arrested almost immediately upon stepping out of custody. Security officials cited a separate pending investigation involving a different robbery incident said to have occurred in Wakiso District.
He remained behind bars for several more days before being released once again on Sunday. Authorities have not confirmed whether the charges have been dropped or if legal proceedings will resume.

The initial arrest followed what police described as a targeted operation in Katwe and neighbouring areas, aimed at tackling a recent spike in reported robberies.
“Following a surge in robbery cases within and outside Katwe Division, a targeted operation was conducted at the residence of Shafiq Jjingo, alias Fik Gaza. The operation resulted in the arrest of four suspects,” said Patrick Onyango, spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Police.
Fik Gaza has since been seen in public, linking up with fellow musician Alien Skin, who is currently recovering from injuries sustained during a mob incident in Iganga District.
The series of events has stirred fresh debate on the intersection of fame, law enforcement, and public accountability in Uganda’s entertainment industry.
