Ugandan singer-songwriter Azawi has released a new single, “Njize Okwagala,” a slow-burning Afro-soul track that sets up her next project, Azawi Lost Files.
The 29-year-old artist, known for blending genres and weaving personal stories into her music, described the song as a reflection of emotional openness.
“Njize Okwagala,” which means “I’ve learned to love” in Luganda, marks the fourth release from her upcoming collection. The record centers on vulnerability — the moment someone decides to stop holding back and confess how they feel.

The track leans on sparse production, built around soft, deliberate rhythms. That minimal backdrop pushes Azawi’s vocals and writing into the spotlight. Swangz Avenue produced the single, alongside Bangar Boi.
The song’s video premiered on YouTube a day after the audio release. It has been viewed more than 81,000 times and sits at No. 15 on YouTube’s trending music chart in Uganda.
Like many of her releases, the track is also finding traction on TikTok. Azawi has joined in, participating in challenges that fans are using to boost the song’s reach. Those short-form videos, ranging from dances to lip-sync clips, have become a key tool for musicians in Uganda to build buzz.
Azawi Lost Files is expected to feature a series of previously unreleased songs — tracks that never made it onto her earlier albums. The new project, she has said, is about giving those songs a life and showing a different side of her artistry.
