Diamond’s business profile
When Diamond Platnumz was just a teenager, he had a simple mission: to be able to buy food for his mother. He didn’t realize his sound and vision would go on to transform East African popular music and elevate the heights of its regional superstars.
A native of Tandale, Dar es Salaam, Diamond Platnumz moved from selling his mother’s ring to booking studio time to owning his own record label, Wasafi Classic Baby (WCB), which includes artists like Mbosso, Lava Lava, Rayvanny, Queen Darleen and Zuchu.
He served as the first African musician to own a radio station, Wasafi FM; a television station, Wasafi TV; and a production company, Zoom Extra; an online betting company, Wasafi Bet; and a perfume brand, Chibu.
With investments in real estate, fragrances, and even a tech company, the businesses he founded collectively employ over 100 people.
Diamond Platnumz is one of the richest musicians in Africa, according to Forbes magazine, with an estimated net worth of $9 million in 2021.
Additionally, Diamond owns the Wasafi Festival, which takes place annually in 10 regions of the county and showcases local and international artists, such as Wizkid, Tiwa Savage and Innos B.
