Watoto Church, one of Uganda’s largest evangelical congregations, has dismissed one of its pastors over allegations of sexual immorality.
The announcement came on Sunday, August 10, in a video message played during services at all branches.
“Leadership in the church is both a calling and a trust,” Pastor Julius Rwotlonyo told the congregation. “We are committed to walking in righteousness and ensuring accountability to the Word of God.”
Rwotlonyo called the incident “unfortunate” and said it undermines the core values of the institution. He described it as a sad moment for the church.
He did not share details of the alleged misconduct. This website is withholding the pastor’s name until their side of the story is heard.
Rwotlonyo became Team Leader at Watoto Church Ministries in 2023, replacing Canadian evangelist Gary Skinner, who founded the church in 1984 with his wife, Marilyn. It began as Kampala Pentecostal Church and has since expanded to multiple campuses across Uganda and South Sudan.
Beyond its weekly worship services — attended by more than 30,000 people according to its website — Watoto is known for community outreach, especially through Watoto Child Care Ministries.
The church says it maintains a zero-tolerance policy on moral and ethical breaches among leaders. Pastors and ministry heads are expected to follow strict biblical standards of conduct. Any violation, particularly involving sexual immorality, triggers immediate investigation and removal from leadership.
