The 2020 Met Gala, scheduled for 4 May, was postponed indefinitely in response to Coronavirus

One of the biggest days of the year is the first Monday in May, but this year it will be just another Monday as the 2020 Met Gala has been postponed over coronavirus.

The 2020 Met Gala, scheduled for May 4, has been postponed indefinitely because of the coronavirus outbreak, confirmed Monday by the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Following the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Met has agreed “to cancel or postponed all services and activities through May 15,” according to a Met spokesman.

The decision comes after last Thursday’s museum announced that it would immediately close down its doors after two workers showed signs of coronavirus.

On Sunday the CDC advised to cancel or postpone gatherings of 50 or more people for the next eight weeks. President Trump made the suggestion more strict at a press conference on Monday, saying groups of 10 or more people would not meet.

The Met Gala red carpet is normally studded with the stars of Hollywood. Celebrities turn up in their most exclusive fashions, like Kim Kardashian, Taylor Swift, Serena Williams, Lady Gaga, Rihanna and many more stars.

This year’s theme was expected to be “About Time: Fashion and Duration.” “It’s a fractured, discontinuous, and heterogeneous reimagining of fashion history,” Costume Institute curator Andrew Bolton said, according to Vogue, who revealed the theme in February.

A new date has still not been confirmed for the 2020 Met gala.

“In the meantime, in our forthcoming May issue, we’ll give you a preview of this extraordinary exhibition,” said Anna Wintour, Vogue’s editor-in-chief, who organizes the annual gala.

Many other widely awaited activities have also been postponed inside the entertainment industry.

A few Fashion Wochen shows have taken place without people in the audience, the NCAA has cancelled its March Madness tournament, others have put off their seasons and the premiers have been held back.

Many of the biggest cities in the U.S. also have closed schools, theatres, bars and restaurants, except taking-out and delivery service. Mr Trump said Monday the outbreak could last through the summer, maybe as long as August.
