Just days after announcing his move to Next Media Services, the parent company of NBS Television, Ugandan media personality Alfa Tymz — born Alpha Kato Jingo Hussein — has confirmed he will be taking over the helm of NBS KURT, the station’s flagship entertainment programme.
His debut as host is scheduled for Saturday, 17 May, marking a new chapter in a show long associated with outgoing presenter Robert Sekidde, popularly known as Tuff B.
Tuff B, who has hosted the show for several years, recently stepped down to focus on a political career. He is expected to contest for the Makindye East parliamentary seat in the 2026 general elections. While he has not formally declared a political party, speculation suggests he may run under the National Unity Platform (NUP), led by opposition figure Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine.
Announcing his new role via his official X account (formerly Twitter), Alfa Tymz wrote: “Don’t miss #NBSKURT every Saturday at exactly 2:00–4:00PM……Live. We’re Unmatched, Bigger and Bolder.”
The announcement was met with a flurry of reactions online, with fans offering both praise and criticism. One user, Ssalongo Kasule Douglas Benda, commented: “Started from the bottom, now you here… congrats bro.”
Others were less kind to the outgoing host. Komuntu Sophie wrote in Luganda: “Tuwonye Tuff B show abadde yagisula kyoka nga agilemedde,” loosely translated as “We’re relieved from Tuff B, he was struggling to run the show.” Another user, Barista Carwon, added: “The former presenter was a bore, honestly. Welcome @AlfaTimez.”
Alfa Tymz began his career in broadcasting at Baba Media Group in Jinja, Eastern Uganda. He later moved to Galaxy FM/TV, where he worked for three years and built a strong following, known for his engaging on-air presence and contemporary take on urban culture.
As he takes over the reins at NBS KURT, all eyes will be on whether he can maintain the show’s popularity and bring a fresh edge to Saturday afternoon entertainment.
