Mauritius-based healthcare group adds a 30-bed Kampala facility to its network, which now comprises six hospitals and 17 clinics.

C-Care has completed its acquisition of Roswell Women & Children Hospital in Kampala, adding a specialist facility focused on women’s health, maternal and child care, and fertility services to its Ugandan operations.

The transaction was completed on September 8, 2026, bringing the 30-bed hospital in Kampala’s Central Business District into the network of the healthcare group, which is owned by Mauritius-based investment company CIEL.

C-Care said the acquisition increases its presence in Uganda to six hospitals and 17 clinics. Roswell serves more than 30,000 patients annually, according to information released by the company.

The group plans to integrate the hospital into its existing operations, strengthen its systems and upgrade its technology. Financial terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed in the available transaction announcement.

Azhar Sundhoo, chief executive of C-Care East Africa, said the deal would expand the group’s services in women’s health, maternal and child care, and fertility.

“We are pleased to welcome Roswell Hospital into the C-Care family. This acquisition strengthens our presence in Kampala and adds to our capabilities in women’s health, maternal and child care, and fertility,” Sundhoo said.

He said the acquisition was part of the group’s growth strategy and that C-Care intended to build on the hospital’s existing services.

Expansion beyond Kampala

The acquisition follows other changes to C-Care’s hospital network in Uganda.

In June 2026, the group upgraded its Gulu outpatient facility into a 45-bed inpatient hospital. Its facilities in Mukono and Mbale have also been upgraded to full hospitals, according to the supplied company information.

C-Care’s Ugandan operations include C-Care International Hospital Kampala (IHK), formerly International Hospital Kampala, which serves as a flagship facility within the network.

The hospital has been associated with the introduction of advanced surgical procedures in Uganda, including open-heart and minimally invasive, or keyhole, surgery. In 2025, it received its fourth consecutive accreditation from the Council for Health Service Accreditation of Southern Africa (COHSASA), according to the supplied material.

C-Care Uganda was formerly known as International Medical Group, a healthcare network founded by Dr Ian Clarke. The business became part of CIEL’s healthcare operations following an ownership change and subsequently adopted the C-Care brand.

The company marked 30 years of operations in Uganda in 2026. Sundhoo said at the anniversary celebrations that the group intended to expand regionally, with Kenya and Rwanda identified as potential markets.

Wider acquisition plans

The Roswell deal comes amid a separate proposed transaction involving International Hospital Kampala and six healthcare businesses and assets reportedly associated with Ugandan physician Dr Malik Ssempereza.

A report by CEO East Africa identified the proposed portfolio as including Roswell Women & Children Hospital, Roswell Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic, Wellington Clinic, Wellington Diabetes and Heart Clinic, Citadel Holdings, and business assets associated with Ssempereza.

The proposed transaction should be distinguished from the completed Roswell acquisition. The available reporting does not establish that all six businesses and assets have been acquired, and the purchase price and approval status of the broader deal have not been publicly disclosed.

C-Care’s immediate expansion in Kampala is therefore confirmed by the Roswell transaction, while the status of the wider acquisition plans remains subject to further clarification.
