Stanbic Bank Uganda has announced that its Head of Brand and Marketing, Daniel Ogong, will step down on October 1 after eight years in the role.
Ogong is widely seen as one of Uganda’s most influential marketing leaders. At Stanbic, he helped shape the bank’s image as a trusted financial institution, while also mentoring younger professionals within the sector.
Chief Executive Mumba Kalifungwa praised his impact.
“Daniel has been instrumental in positioning Stanbic Bank as a brand espousing trust, innovation, and client focus,” he said. “His work has inspired our teams internally and also set new benchmarks for marketing excellence in the wider industry. We thank him for his service and wish him the very best in his future endeavors.”
Ogong called the role a privilege.
“Leading the Stanbic brand and marketing strategy has been one of the greatest privileges of my career,” he said.
He added: “Over the past eight years, I have had the honour of working with incredibly talented colleagues in telling the Stanbic story in a way that resonates with Ugandans and demonstrates our role in driving the country’s progress.”
“I am proud of what we achieved together,” he continued, “and confident the brand will continue to thrive in the years ahead.”
His time at Stanbic saw bold investment in local sport and music, with campaigns designed to connect the bank’s purpose to the everyday lives of Ugandans. Industry peers describe him as a mentor and team-builder, someone who focused not just on brand visibility but on nurturing talent inside the organisation.
His work earned recognition well beyond the bank. In 2024, Ogong was named Marketing Pioneer of the Year by Evolve Group Africa. A year earlier, the African Marketing Confederation awarded him Professional of the Year.
Stanbic says his influence will remain visible in Uganda’s marketing industry for years to come.
The bank also confirmed that Diana Kahunde, currently Brand & Marketing Manager for Personal and Private Banking, will step in as Interim Head of Brand and Marketing on October 1. She has led several campaigns in the retail banking segment and is expected to ensure stability during the transition.
