Nigerian Afrobeats artists Davido and Tems have recently achieved new certifications in Canada, as announced by Music Canada on October 23. Music Canada, responsible for monitoring popular music in the country, has been recognizing significant music sales milestones, including over 20,000 albums, singles, digital downloads, ringtones, and music videos, through its gold and platinum certification program since its inception in 1975.
Davido’s track ‘Unavailable,’ from his fourth studio album ‘Timeless,’ achieved gold certification by selling more than 40,000 units in Canada. Additionally, his 2017 hit ‘Fall’ earned platinum certification after surpassing 80,000 in sales.
On the other hand, Tems, known for her feature on Wizkid’s 2020 chart-topping single ‘Essence,’ earned new gold certifications for her songs ‘Found,’ ‘Damages,’ ‘Free Mind,’ and ‘Higher.’ This accomplishment solidifies her status as the most certified Nigerian female artist in Canada.
Both artists are signed with Sony Music and are prominent figures in the African pop music scene.
