Entebbe International Airport recorded its busiest month on record in August, with more than 243,000 international passengers passing through Uganda’s main gateway, according to data published by the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA).
The numbers — 116,507 arrivals and 126,582 departures — averaged nearly 7,841 travelers each day. That total beat the airport’s previous high in July, when 230,577 passengers were counted, itself a record at the time.
The UCAA credited the growth to Uganda’s busy calendar of events. “Sports tourism and conferences were among the key contributors to this notable increase,” said Vianney Luggya, the authority’s manager for public affairs.
Arrivals outpaced departures in August, a reversal from July’s tally of 119,127 arrivals and 111,450 departures. The last time the airport set a monthly record before this summer was December 2024, when 222,301 passengers moved through the facility.
Cargo traffic has also been steady. The airport processed 5,257 metric tonnes in August, including 2,010 tonnes of imports and 3,247 tonnes of exports. Fresh produce continues to dominate Uganda’s outbound shipments. “Fresh produce remains one of the leading export commodities, underscoring Uganda’s position as a significant supplier of agricultural products to international markets,” Luggya said.
For the first six months of 2025, Entebbe handled more than 1.1 million international passengers, a 6 percent rise from the same period last year. The growth reflects both a recovery in leisure and business travel and Uganda’s push to position Entebbe as a regional hub.
