Nyombi Thembo, the former Minister for ICT, has been named the new Executive Director of the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), succeeding Irene Kaggwa, who held an acting role for two years. Thembo, previously the State Minister of ICT, led the Uganda Communications Universal Services Access Fund (UCUSAF) at UCC.
This appointment follows a September 2023 job posting that attracted over 70 applicants nationwide. Thembo, Eng. Irene Kaggwa, Fred Otunnu, Director of Corporate Affairs at UCC, and Julianne Mweheire, Director of Industry Affairs and Content Development, were reported as the top contenders.
Coming three years ahead of the 2026 presidential elections, Thembo, despite reduced political activity, remains a recognized NRM mobilizer in Kassanda South.
