The concert was first held on March 30, 1985, at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, near the end of Prince’s iconic purple rain tour. The concert footage was originally sold via VHS, a live event that was one of the earliest events available for home video.

Prince’s performance is backed by The Revolution, his touring band, which includes drummer crazy-talented Bobby Z, guitarist Wendy Melvoin and keyboardists Lisa Coleman and Matt Fink.

Fundraising for the COVID-19 fight

Visitors can enjoy the watch-party for free but are encouraged to donate to the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Unity Response Fund. Google, which owns YouTube, has already pledged to match $5 million donations.

When the extraordinary private donations and philanthropic efforts of the musician emerged, the depth of the Prince’s Trust was revealed after his death. His estate is committed to the Prince’s charity.

One hour before the start of the streaming concert on Thursday at 7 pm ET, fans will have the chance to participate in a question-and-answer session with Revolution drummer Bobby Z. This interactive time will be managed by Andrea Swenson of Minnesota Public Radio 89.3 (The Current).
