Ugandan singer-songwriter Azawi has released a new track titled Talking Stage, offering fans a more intimate glimpse into her creative world.
The song — now available on major streaming platforms including Spotify and Apple Music — follows weeks of cryptic social media posts teasing unreleased material. The audio version on YouTube has already amassed over 13,000 views, a modest but telling sign of her loyal fanbase’s anticipation.
Best known for blending catchy melodies with emotional honesty, the Swangz Avenue artist describes Talking Stage as “music straight from the heart.” It delves into the uncertain terrain between casual flirtation and deeper commitment — a stage of modern romance that often feels both exciting and unsettling.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on 7 May, Azawi revealed that Talking Stage could be the first in a series of personal songs drawn from what she calls her “lost files” — tracks written but never included in previous albums.
“I write my stories, my pains, my joys in songs. My songs are my diaries,” she wrote. “I have about 200 journal notes that turned into music but that music never made it to my albums.”
She continued, “Exactly 3 years ago, I declared that year my turning point. Since then, life has taken me on an emotional rollercoaster, inspiring songs that, while meaningful, weren’t album-ready. Now, I’m releasing those hidden stories… imperfect songs that capture raw emotions that I’m sure many people can relate to.”
Azawi’s decision to share these unreleased tracks appears to be a conscious move towards vulnerability, marking a new phase in her artistic evolution. For long-time listeners, Talking Stage may feel like an invitation — not just to hear her music, but to understand the journey behind it.

Born Priscilla Zawedde, Azawi began her career in the arts as a dancer with the Kika dance troupe in 2005. By 2011, she had turned her attention to songwriting, initially as a hobby, before realising its commercial potential. Her big break came in 2020 with the release of Quinamino, shortly after signing with Swangz Avenue — a label known for nurturing Ugandan talent, including Vinka, Winnie Nwagi, and Elijah Kitaka.
Since then, she’s grown into one of the country’s most distinctive voices, blending afrobeats, soul, and personal storytelling. With Talking Stage, she seems poised to revisit her roots while pushing into emotionally uncharted territory.
Whether the upcoming tracks from her “journal” will follow suit in tone or take a different path — “Pain? Love? Vibes? Groove?” she teased — one thing is clear: Azawi is ready to speak her truth, one imperfect song at a time.
