- Davido, Wizkid, and 2Baba are some of the popular music stars who have won the Headies.
- The award honors outstanding achievements in the Nigerian music industry.
- This year, the Headies will also feature a category celebrating music executives.
Headies Award, formerly known as the Hip Hop World Awards, will hold its inaugural ceremony outside Nigeria for the first time since they were founded in 2006.
The show’s creator, Ayo Animashaun, made the announcement at the Eko Hotels in Lagos on Tuesday during ‘The Headies Big Announcement’ event which aired via HipTV.
This year’s “Join the Movement” award ceremony will be held at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center in Cumberland/Galleria edge city in northwest Atlanta, Georgia, United States.

Additionally, they announced the addition of new categories, such as talent managers and Africa awards, a grand showcase of African fashion, and the Headies conference and music festival.
An entirely new category will also be added to the Headies honoring music executives this year.
Award categories include Headies Hall of Fame, Hip Hop World Revelation of the Year, Viewer’s Choice, Album of the Year, African Artiste Recognition Award, Special Recognition Award, Music Executive of the Year, Song of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Next Rated.
The 2022 Headies will also include categories such as Artiste of the Year, Recording of the Year, Best Street Hop Artiste, Best Alternative Song, Lyricist on the Rise, Producer of the Year, Best Rap Album, and Best R&B Album.
There are also categories for Best Alternative Album, Best Afrobeat/Pop Single, Best Afrobeat/Pop Album, Songwriter of the Year, Best Male Vocal Performance, Best Female Vocal Performance, Best Music Video, and Best R&B Single.
Other categories include Best Collaboration, Best Rap Single, Best African Collaboration, Best International Collaboration, African Artiste of the Year, and International Artiste of the Year.
Davido, Wizkid, and 2Baba are among the stars who won the Headies, which recognize outstanding achievements in the Nigerian music industry.
