Ugandan comedian Anne Kansiime is set to headline a unique entertainment event, The Comedy Grill, with the backing of Uganda Waragi. The show, scheduled for 9 May at Sheraton Gardens in Kampala, marks a first for Uganda’s comedy scene—a live roast celebrating one of the continent’s most recognisable comic talents.
The event will feature a star-studded lineup of local personalities, dubbed the “Grill Chefs,” who will take turns gently roasting Kansiime in front of a live audience. Among them are comedians Salvador, Madrat and Chico, as well as media figures and public personalities including Gaetano Kagwa, Sheila Gashumba (DJ Lil Stunner), Nana Kagga, and former politician Dr Miria Matembe. The evening will be hosted by Tuwangye Richard and radio presenter Miss Deedan Muyiira.
Uganda Waragi’s Lemon and Ginger flavour will headline the sponsorship. Speaking at a press conference held at the Sheraton Hotel, brand representative Hillary Baguma said:
“Uganda Waragi is the heartbeat of Ugandan celebration. By sponsoring The Comedy Grill of Anne Kansiime, we’re backing authentic talent with a platform for comedy to shine. As Uganda Waragi Lemon and Ginger, we take pride in being bold and refreshing, so we are delighted to provide the perfect spark for this groundbreaking grill.”
Anne Kansiime, speaking at the launch, added:
“Uganda’s comedy scene is about to get a whole lot hotter—and with Lemon and Ginger, we’re ready to serve laughter with a twist.”
The announcement was accompanied by a light-hearted mini-roast, offering a preview of what fans can expect on the night.
Aly Allibhai, CEO of event organisers Talent Africa Group, described the show as a celebration of creativity:
“This event is a celebration of not only Anne’s incredible talent, but also the innovativeness and cutting-edge experiences we want to bring to audiences. We aim to create an evening where laughter meets entertainment—where everyone leaves with a smile.”

About Anne Kansiime
Born on 13 April 1987, Kansiime began performing in 2007 while studying at Makerere University. She first gained public attention through Theatre Factory, a Kampala-based troupe that performed weekly at the Uganda National Theatre. When Theatre Factory dissolved, she joined Fun Factory, a group that continues to stage performances every Thursday.
Her sharp wit and relatable humour found a wider audience through television, with skits airing on NTV Uganda’s Barbed Wire, later renamed U-Turn. She co-hosted the popular MiniBuzz series alongside Brian Mulondo, where they portrayed a taxi conductor and driver engaging passengers in comedic discussions on current affairs.
Beyond comedy, Kansiime has committed herself to philanthropy. Through her charity, The Kansiime Foundation, she supports over 35 underprivileged but academically gifted children through primary and secondary education.
She is also an entrepreneur, running Kansiime Backpackers, a lakeside leisure lodge on the shores of Lake Bunyonyi in Kabale District, south-western Uganda.
